Why would you want to do it

Why would anyone want to play in an artificial zoo to recreate some sort of "Tarzan and Jane" experience?

There are three main reasons:

  1. Humans evolved from a climbing, tree-dwelling ancestry and have a vestigial proclivity for experiencing the potential psychosocial and physical rewards of being at height
  2. Due to massive urbanization and the removal of everyday life from direct engagement with nature, this vestigial urge to climb and explore is now being increasingly engaged through artificially constructed climbing experiences
  3. It’s an amazing experience that you just happen to learn from

It should be noted that the extent to which individuals are favourably disposed towards taking perceived physical risks at height varies greatly, both inherently and due to past experiences with taking physical and psychological risks at height.

It might also be noted that fear of height is one of only about a half a dozen core, inherent fears that humans seem to be born with (others include fear of drowning, fire, suffocation, etc.).  By directly engaging with a core fear such as height in supportive conditions, a well-run ropes course program can be a significant and even transformative experience giving rise to a greater capacity for handling fear-type reactions in other settings.

Locations

The choice of venue for your event is an extremely important consideration and likely to be made based on the following three requirements:

  • Location - Ideally close to your company location or central to a group of attendees.
  • Facilities - With the level of hospitality required and availability of activities on-site or close by.
  • Budget - Within your budgetary limitations.

If you are looking for a hotel, conference centre, pub, bunkhouse, campsite or simply somewhere to hang your hat, we have a wealth of knowledge about suitable venues in the UK, mainland Europe and further afield if required.

We can certainly recommend the venues featured in our ‘favourites’ section, each has it’s own ‘uniqueness’ and is of a very good quality.

We are pleased to be able to recommend the following venues, each of which can provide excellent hospitality and facilities for courses and events:
